Additional web services
In addition to our design services we offer content management systems (cms), domain management, hosting, search optimisation and pay-per-click (ppc) management. These are explained below.
Content Management System (CMS)?
A content management system will allow you to:
• Be in control of all content in your website, including text and images.
• Manage your site from ANY computer connected to the Internet.
• Add/update images directly from your PC to your website.
• Add new pages and navigation to those new pages automatically.
• Manage your site without having to call us.
• Helps keep your site up to date and your content fresh.
Will a CMS suit my business?
If you will need to make regular changes or update your content often then a CMS is probably a good idea. However, should you not need updates or don't have the time to do it then we are more than willing to carry out any changes required for you. Our website design page has more information about maintenance.
What is a domain name?
In simple terms you may know it as a web address for example www.yourName.co.uk . It is the name that is registered for your website for a period (in the case of co.uk of 2 years, a .com for 1 year) that no-one else can use while the name remains registered.
What a domain name does.
The domain contains information about it’s owner, contact information and other references to the ownership and registration details of the name. The domain also has something called the MX records and Name server details. Put simply the MX records point at where emails will be sent, while the name server record points to the physical address of the website, that is the address of the machine where the website is stored.
What will a domain name give you.
Owning the domain name means you can change the name server and mx records as your circumstances change. Should you need to move your hosting or deal differently with your email then updating the necessary records accordingly will allow those changes smoothly and without interuption to your services.
Imaker can register your domain name for you, existing costs for a year are in the region of £7 for a .co.uk name and £12 for .com. We will also research and advise on the best domain name for your business.
What is hosting?
Hosting puts your website onto a computer that has a permanent, very high speed connection to the internet ( a server). There are several types of hosting ranging from dedicated, managed and virtual for large websites and shared hosting for small/medium business who don't need a whole server to host their website.
What does hosting do?
In addition to allowing visitors to view your pages, you will also usually get many other services. For example databases, scripting and visitor statistics.
We provide Windows and Linux hosting on servers based in the UK with a range of prices to suit your needs for our web design clients.
Search optimisation.
When we design or re-design a website we always make sure the pages are optimised for search using "on page" factors such as title and meta tags, and through optimising the text and image content of the site as well as the menu and navigation elements.
Pay-per-click (ppc).
The main search engines allow display of advertisers in all their search listings. These ads are paid for depending on an agreed amount, but only when they are clicked. If no-one visits your site, you don't pay and, as an advertiser, you can set a budget on the number of visitors.
We can manage this service on your behalf to make sure you get the best value for money.
